Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana

I'm nineteen years old. When I was about one, my mom took my biological dad to court for a paternity test. I was proven to be his child and he was to pay child support. I believe he only paid about two years and then quit his job and disappered till I was about four. When I was four my mom didn't push for child support when he came back in my life. I saw him five times before he disappered once again. I had no contact from him other than once on the phone when I was nine. He has never been apart of my, he just kept disappearing. My mom never tried to make a man who didn't want to be apart of my life stay or pay child support if he wasn't going to ba around. I know you can not make them pay child support after your eighteen. But I feel that money was owed to me. He was legally suppose to pay it, but kept on disappering. I know my mom should of pursued it, but I understand why she didn't want to put me through that. What my question is, is can I sue him for the money he owes me. I'm nineteen and in college and the money he owes me could really be of use to me. I don't if I am capable of doing this or if I should. My mom thinks I should, thinks after nineteen years of him not being there he at lest owes me my money. So am I able to sue him for the money he owes from child support?

Yes, there is a claim for back child support. Additionally, you may have a claim separate from that for contribution for college expenses.
