Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Indiana

Home Owners Association

We just recently purchased a home in a neighborhood with an established home owners association. We were aware of the HOA but never had to sign anything acknowledging that we accept or agree with the terms. Are HOA's legal and are we required by law to abide by the rules and regulations of the HOA? If so, and we don't, what can they do to us?

Thanks for your help!

Re: Home Owners Association

The answer is yes they are legal and as a homeowner you are bound to the covenants of the Hoa-these are recorded the same as your deed and you are bound to pay the annual fees as well as abide by the bylaws and other covenants. they can sue you for unpaid fees which become a lien on your property
