Legal Question in Appeals and Writs in Iowa

Hobbs act

I am trying to do some research on behalf of a friend, doing life in prison, sentenced using the Hobbs Act. I'm trying to locate similar cases, how can I get copies of a brief used in a case? Is it possible to obtain that information? I've gotten lots of conflicting information, regarding price....does it really cost $75,000 for a federal appeal? What are the chances of a life sentence being overturned?

I don't have any idea what a Federal appeal costs. As far as getting copies of briefs the US district court in the jurisdiction where he was convicted should be able to provide you with copies. Any law library should be able to lead you to the West Federal Digest for similar cases. There are two good ones in the capitol, at Drake and at the State Capitol Building.
