Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Iowa

I just had a question...my mom is filing bankruptcy- chapter 13 and she has been working with her lawyer for over a year now and she came to the point where they filed and she went through everything and the courts denied her unless my dad hands over his bonuses for the next 5 years along with their payback plan. My mom is filing seperate so my dad doesn't have to be involved with this....well my question is that her lawyer in the begining was telling her that she should quit her job so they would lower the payments and not to seperate from my dad because that would look bad but now she is saying that she should have a job and that if my parents were leagally seperated then they could do more. This lawyer advised her to do all of this and now she is saying something completley different and my mom is now in even more debt because of all the late charges and we don't really know what to do. Is her lawyer in the wrong or are we just SOL on the whole situation.

I really do not have any good answers for you. Bankruptcy is pretty fact specific and I do not practice in the field. I suggest you arrange for a consult with another bankruptcy attorney.
