Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa

divorce

Have not filed yet but we have decided how to split things up hopefully without much fight. Wife has always had our house in her name always. I have been main provider for 14 yrs. She can have house. I need a place to live . have found a house for $29,000, cheaper than rent. If I purchase, will she be able to attach herself to it if I buy myself? Will I have to buy and put in daughters name to avoid her trying to get it? From what I understand divorces split all bills and belongings 50/50? We are doing that on our own but don't want to cause another problem. Need a place to live close to work. This house fits thats need.

Re: divorce

Any asset acquired during the course of the marriage is property of the marital estate and she will be entitled to a share. Why don't you explain the situation to the seller and rent the house until the divorce?
