Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa

I am going through a divorce. I am unemployed and have no source of income since my wife left. I was a stay at home dad who did virtually all of the household chores and raised our baby. Ive been considering trying to get alimony. just curious if its going to be worth my time or if I should just forget about it. she took the car too so I have no transportation as we were a 1 vehicle household. Im not looking for her to have to pay alimony forever...just until I can find a job and get on my feet again.
