Legal Question in Personal Injury in Iowa

what is the statute of limitations for an ongoing mental injury. i suffer from clinical depression, ptsd, anxiety/panic attacks, personality disorder. i was abused by my brother 50 years ago but for many years. he was a legal adult when he was still abusing me. my dr's say my mental illness was a result of the abuse. can i sue for damages. everything accurred and we are still in iowa. thanks

Here's some information about statutes of limitations. I think that your action would be time barred.

614.8A DAMAGES FOR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE -- TIME

LIMITATION.

An action for damages for injury suffered as a result of sexual

abuse which occurred when the injured person was a child, but not

discovered until after the injured person is of the age of majority,

shall be brought within four years from the time of discovery by the

injured party of both the injury and the causal relationship between

the injury and the sexual abuse.
