Italian divorce laws
I am a VA resident but my spouse works for the federal government and has lived in Sicily for over a year and a half. What are the Italian laws concerning filing for a divorce? Is there a minimum time of separation like in VA?

You don't have to file for a divorce in Italy. If you've lived in VA for the last six months and have been separated for 6 months (with no kids and a signed property settlement agreement or have been separated for at least one year (even if you have children and no signed property settlement agreement) then you can file for divorce in Virginia.

Why do you care? If your husband is a US. citizen and an employee of the federal government, if he's
going to file for divorce, it's not going to be under the laws of Italy.
If you're the one who wants to initiate the action for divorce, as long as you're a legal resident of the Commonwealth, you may initiate your divorce action at any time, once the other statutory requirements have been met.
