Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Kansas

I and my son, accepted an offer to stay with my girlfriend here in Kansas CIty. Rent free and I would help her with her day care. She asked me how did 400.00 a month sound I said great. She loaned my son $1175.00.

Well, my son is on very strong medications and has had two siezures while with her. The morning of the second sieaure she said he couldnt stay anylonger so we went to her ex husbands home. She had called one day and said she needed me at her place say ..,. from 2:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. to help with her day care. I said no problem but, would have to bring my son and she said no not to come. She didn't want to risk her day care children to see clint if he had another siezure. OK

We are working on a Disability appeal for my son and he has his last Psych visit the 16th of this month. Not to become a burden on her husband we advised him that we would be leaving K.C. around the 23rd. My son, Clint called her a day or so later and asked if we could come get some of our stuff. Her reply was "Absolutely not" when he asked her why, she said not until we paid her back. Well, the majority of my things are mine not my sons. There is a brand new computer, blue ray DVD player, VCR?DVD player, clothing and not to mention 137 DVD's. So we were pretty much kicked out before repayment was discussed and no discussion that she would be uncomfortabe with us leaving, considering there was money owed her. She never paid me for helping her either.

What are our options?

You shoudl ask the Police to have an officer accompany you when you go to retrive yrou belongings. You may have to fiel suit to get the money that is owed to you for yrou work (you will probably be reduced by teh value of the rent free relationship) and if you sue int eh name of yrou Son also, she may countersue for the loan. For that reason, you may not want to sue in the name of your Son, just you.

You could hire an attorney to assust you in collecting the funds and belongings owed to you. Many offer a free or low cost initial consultation.

Good luck
