Legal Question in Family Law in Kansas

Last year I finally realized that I should go after my sons father for child support. It wasnt about me or how bad I felt, or that he had no money, it was about showing my son responsibility and so much more. My son is 12 now and I just recently picked up the court paperwork this morning. I live in KS and his father resides in MN. The last time I saw his father was at my sons 1st birthday. In the court paperwork, it claims that he has no way to contact me. All but two years, he was always able to contact me as I am still friends with his female first cousins as well as all of the various media communities out there now. My sons father is a not the greatest person. I was young and looking for adventure. Unfortunately, I strongly believe that my son is better off without him. The thought of what my son could get exposed to while in his care, scares me! I am not willing to jeopardize everything that I have sacrificed to give my son an equal chance in life. I am and have always been a single parent, have never been on welfare, went to school full time and worked full time, and now I am doing well. My concern is that, should I go for full custody to ensure my sons future remains the same? What if he comes after visitation?

When you seek child support, there is always the chance that the court will grant visitation or custody to the other parent. It may not always be fair to the child to have exposure to just one patent. You should consult directly with a family law attorney in your area. Many offer a free or low cost initial consultation. Get advice specific the facts if your case.
