Re: Husband's responsibility

Dear LawGuru Friend,

I assume you are talking about Louisiana. The answer is yes, your husband is responsible for the debts you incur, just as you are responsible for his. That assumes you and he did not have a pre-nuptial (pre-marriage) contract, of course, before you married each other. I wish you the best of luck and hope you and he may be able to work out your differences. I always tell a party who is breaking up that his or her troubles started the day he or she got married, and they will end the day he or she dies. Divorce or not! I will say a prayer for you. Maybe God will hear even mine. Keep up the good work! Thanks for asking!

Sincerely,

Hardy Parkerson, Atty.
