Legal Question in Family Law in Kentucky

Family Court Question

Hello,

I live in Louisville,Ky..This Monday Jan 08 I am to appear in court as the plantiff in a hearing in which I took an EPO out on a former girlfriend who is harrassing me and my family..What can I expect to happen?

Is it neccessary for me to have an attorney for myself?

Should I bring documents(emails) from her stating the threats? etc.

Thanks for your time, I am just unsure of what to expect at this hearing,as I have never been to a family court room before.

Thanks!

Re: Family Court Question

There may be an assistant county attorney to help you. You do not need to have legal counsel of your own, but you are free to choose to bring an attorney.

Since the vast majority of EPO cases involve women against men rather than your man vs. woman scenario, you may have to overcome some initial hesitation by the various players in the system. You may ask to speak to a victim advocate if one is available [also from the cou atty office].

Usually the judge will ask both sides to be sworn in and say what happened.

DEFINITELY bring copies of emails or any other evidence (including other witnesses if there are any).

Good luck.
