Family legal represetative
I was served court papers that are signed by my ex-wife's sister who is an attorney. Can she legally represent her? She is taking me to court for child support which I am paying but in arrears about 1,200.00. I was told that a relative can not represent another family member and that it is considered a conflict of interest. Can she represent her? Will the judge dismiss the case and request that she get an attorney that is not related to her? Her sisters best friend has been her attorney in the past. I believe that this is also a conflict of interest. What is the leagalities on this matter in the state of Kentucky?

There are no legal or ethical prohibitions in Kentucky which would prevent an attorney from representing his own interests or those of a family member in court. Kentucky even allows attorneys to practice in front of judges they are related to.
A conflict of interest arises when an attorney attempts to represent two different parties to the same civil or criminal conflict.
Your ex-wife has the right to be represented by the attorney of her choice, regardless of familial relationship.
