Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Kentucky

lienholders are jerks and also ex-in-laws

I have approximately 35 acres of land. The lien still has 18,000 dollars balance. The land is valued at approximately 90,000. Can I force the lienholder, my ex-in-laws to release an acre of land from the lien? I have paid my portion of the lien and my ex-husband is soley responsible for the balance. He make monthly payments on it at this time. The deed is in my name. Thanks.

Re: lienholders are jerks and also ex-in-laws

The simple answer is no, you cannot force the lienholder to release the lien. They had no part in your divorce and they were not a party. This is a problem in a lot of divorces where there is a mortgage debt and one of the parties is ordered to pay the debt. The mortgage holder will still hold both parties responsible upon default. It does not matter who was ordered to pay the debt in the divorce decree. On the other hand, the responsible party can be held in contempt in the divorce case.
