Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Louisiana

My boss told me in a verbal agreement that I didn't have to worry about paying rent one month because I had done so much work during the Hurricane for him that he said to consider it a bonus. Now ten months after I am no longer working for him, he decides to serve me with papers stating that I owe him rent and a late fee, plus attorneys fees. Can this be done and do I have any rights?

Oral agreements are hard to prove, unless you have a disinterested third party to verify the agreement. If you can prove the existence of the agreement, you owe them nothing. If you can't prove the existence of the agreement, you owe the rent. You only owe late fees and attorney's fees if there is a written lease that allows them to charge late fees and attorney's fees.
