1904 Cash Bond for Marriage

My maternal great-great-grandfathers each contributed $250.00 (total of $500.00) for a cash bond for their children's 1904 marriage in LA. My great-grandmother was widowed and never remarried after her husband's death. No one seems to know anything about these bonds that were posted during this time nor what happened to the money. Is there anyway to find out? Was the money just given to the state (hard to believe given the time and amount of money involved for that time). I have a photocopy of the marriage license and the receipt for the bond. My grandmother passed away 4 years ago but is survived by 2 children. I've been trying to find out this informtion for several years and have about given up any hope of an answer.

You could start by contacting the company or entity that issued the bond, if it is still in existence. If it no longer exists, it would probably take quite a bit of research to find out what happened. Good luck.

Their are companies that will look into this for a fee. Ask your stockbroker or banker.
