Re: Bankrupcy

Oh, dear. Your tale is not uncommon.

Your solution lies in finding a Maine-based attorney who is well versed in bankruptcy law. Your divorce lawyer may be able to help you find one, or you could call the Maine bar association, or the bar association of your nearest decent-sized city for a referral. If you cannot afford the attorney's fees, Maine may have a system set up whereby you can get help from a publicly funded civil lawyer or even from a private lawyer who is getting his/her brownie points for doing pro bono work (New York has such a system, but I'm not admitted in Maine, so I don't know if this system, or what permutation of this system, exists there). If Maine does have such a system, contact the office for the publicly funded civil attorneys in your county (if they're not in the phone book, the local District Attorney or Public Defender should know how to get ahold of them). In New York, you have to have a low income to qualify for their services; again, I don't know what Maine requires.

Good luck.
