Legal Question in Insurance Law in Maine

One of my properties was hit by a tree in the storm doing damage to one side and a corner board, the siding on the property is no longer made, therefore I can not match up color, grain or even height to the rest of the house. Two contractors told me they would not do just one side because it would be unacceptable. There is a full inch difference on the side, plus it would be a different color than the rest of the house. Is this common practice or am I getting screwed? I dont think anyone in the world would do this to there house.

It sounds like you should be attempting to negotiate a bigger settlement with your insurance company so that you can take care of this problem. Either you should get enough money to do the whole house, or you should have more money to spend on getting custom siding made to match your old siding. It is possible that the insurance adjuster who looked at the problem initially didn't realize this. The contractors should be helping you advocate for the best solution, rather than telling you that they can't do what you want. You should solicit their assistance in identifying how much it will cost to match the custom siding up, or what the cost will be to do the whole house with new siding. If you need assistance negotiating with the insurance company, you can hire a public adjuster and/or an attorney to assist you. An attorney may hire a public adjuster at your expense. You have paid your insurance premiums, now go after what you are entitled to receive. Good luck.
