Legal Question in Business Law in Maryland

unfair accusations

I work fora corporate retailer and was accused of breaking a state law for calling an employee at home to help with closing the register. That employee has more knowledge about the system and was happy to help I was on the phone for 1 hour and half it was a huge problem but she helped and I paid her now I am being accused of breaking a law although I don't know what law neither does the accuser many other things were said but this was the most upsetting. I have never broken the law and I don't know what to do I could lose my job because of this. I feel its a training issue because I am violating policy but unaware my trainer stopped training me when she found out she was not going to be the trainer after she trained me. I am doing the best I can for not having any knowledge about the rules my sales increased so has my customer base what can I do

Re: unfair accusations

I suggest you request a meeting with your supervisor(s) to try and ascertain what if anything you did that was in violation of company policy. Perhaps if you demonstrate your commitment to the company and explain that you were not aware of any policy that you were violating at the time, it will clear the air. If the company feels you are a valuable employee and that any wrongdoing was inadvertent, you should be "out of the woods". However, you should understand that legally, you are an "at will" employee and thus would have no recourse if you are discharged, even if unfairly.
