Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Maryland

Attorney takes 90% of my settlement!!!

Is it legal for your attorney to take 90% of you settlement? Whats the point of a civil action if you come out of it with nothing?

If that was the contingent fee, that would normally be unreasonable. If that was the fee plus out-of-pocket costs, or if the fee was hourly or otherwise not measured by the amount of the recovery, it could be perfectly reasonable.

A 90% contingency fee would be excessive. If your attorney received 90% of the award as part of an attorneys fees award pursuant to a fee shifting statute, that might be different.
