I pay child support for my 12 year old son and I have him half the year;now I work parttime,how does this effect the amount of support I should pay if I ask for a modification?

Child support is based on the income at the time of the hearing. If your income goes down, so should your support.

Whether or not you are entitled to a reduction in the amount of support you pay depends upon 1) whether your current income is significantly less than the amount at the time the current award was entered and 2) whether you are capable of working full time but choose not to do so. In that case, the other parent in defending against your modification petition, could argue that you are voluntarily impoverishing yourself and the court should therefore base its child support calculation on what you could earn on a full time basis taking your work history and qualifications into account.
