Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

pey ownership

I have a dog 1 and 1/2 yrs. old. I bought her as a gift for my boyfriend and he signed the paper work as owner. He was never around so I took care of her and have paid and taken her to all her vet visits. We split up and she has lived with me for the 8 months and he still comes to see her. My question is: Does he have legal right to take her from me even though I have been her main care giver? What can I do to secure ownership? He wont sign her over to me he will fight for her and I need to be prepared. Please contact me as soon as possible.

Re: pey ownership

If you bought the dog as a gift and gave it to your boyfriend, it's his. Gifts belong to the person who receives them, unless the gift is clearly conditional on the giver receiving something in return which is not received. In the circumstances you describe it does seem that your former boyfriend is a little vindictive, but the dog is his.
