Legal Question in Immigration Law in Maryland

I was arrested for shoplifting in 1995, plead guilty (i think), had probation and community service. in 1997, my case was expunged. I want to fill for citizenship and went to the courthouse in MD to get a final case dispostion, however, was told that they have nothing on my case. They can only give me a document stating that it has been expunged. Can someone please tell me how to handle this. What else can I provide to USCIS. Thanks for your help.

If that is all you can get, then so be it. This "minor" crime occcurred over 15 years ago? I doubt you will be able to get any disposition; nonetheless, you can file your application for citizenship and advise them of that fact. They will decide whether or not you need to get the disposition. Make sure the document stating the conviction was expunged is signed and notarized by an official of the state and make sure to provide USCIS with the original. Good luck!
