breach of contract- independent contractor wants to leave company-has worked for couple clients who wants to work with ind contrac solely but contract does not allow that for a 1 yr period.

what can ind contractor do?

It sounds like you have a non-compete agreement with the company for which you are working. In Maryland, non-compete agreements are valid, but they are also closely scrutinized and narrowly enforced. Before you leave the company, you should have a lawyer review the agreement to determine to what extent, if any, the agreement can be enforced against you.
