Legal Question in Personal Injury in Maryland

I fell on a city sidewalk in May. While there was no break or fracture, I have been in physical therapy since June. My doctor says hopefully, my hand will feel normal by Thanksgiving.

Can I sue the city with only my husband as a witness?

I assume your fall occurred in Maryland for purposes of this answer. You may sue the party responsible for negligently maintaining the sidewalk (it may be the city, county, state, or private party!). If the defendant is the city, county, or state, you will have to comply with the Local Government Tort Claims and the Maryland Tort Claims Act in order to sue the government. These statutes generally require that the government be put on notice within 180 days of the date of the incident; otherwise, you lose the right to bring your claim. Since the incident happened in June, you have likely not passed that 180 days yet, so I would STRONGLY urge you to hire a Maryland personal injury attorney immediately to discuss the merits of your case. If you wait, you may lose your chance to recover for your damages. Best of luck. ***The above does not create an attorney-client relationship and is intended for informational purposes only.******
