Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Maryland

abandoned property - snowmobiles on trailer

At our condominium there are 2 snowmobiles on a trailer that has been parked on our property for over 3 years and no one knows whom they belong to. There are no identification markes or licsence plates to search.

Can we use them? Sell them? or Move them?

Re: abandoned property - snowmobiles on trailer

After taking appropriate measures to discern whether they are not the property of one of your neighbors, you should then contact the police and inform them that you beleive they are stolen/abandoned property.

The police are often not that likely to become involved without a little push but ultimately this is their responsibility. Other actions may apply based upon the requirements of the homeowner association. In any event, you cannot abscond with the property nor can you convert it to your use...it is not your property.
