Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Maryland

Homeowners Association

I am trying to start a homeowner's association in my neighborhood. Any advice of what documents, how to elect the Board of Directors, etc. would be appreciated.

Re: Homeowners Association

The first thing I suggest you do is read the Maryland Homeowners Association Act, which can be found in the Real Property Article of the Maryland Code. You could access this on line from the state govt website (google it), or you could go to the courthouse in Upper Marlboro and use the law library. You will learn a lot about the legal requirements and how to set up an association. You should form a committee who will be responsible for creating the covenants and other legal documents you will need. You should then hire an experienced real estate attorney who works in this area to draw up the necessary documents. Perhaps you can fund raise among the prospective members to finance your initital expenses.
