I had a driving accident 3 years ago and now I have been sued for $10000. I am over 23 years old and penniless. Can my parents be hold financially responsible since they pay for my college education and I am on their tax return?

Re: Age responsibility

Being on your parents tax return or their paying for college are not directly applicable to

a determination of whether they would be liable for an automobile accident caused by your negligence.

The test is whether you were operating the vehicle as their agent or as a fiduciary.

If you have automobile insurance then you should utilize coverage as well as the legal defense that they must provide

in accordance with law. If you have not yet spoken to your insurance company you may have a problem with adherance to the

policy and notification requirements.

If you are being sued you should obtain legal representation. Contact an attorney.
