Consequences of a NYS speeding ticket

Last weekend, I received a speeding ticket in NY. I reside in MD. The officer says that I will not get any points on my MD driver's license? Is that true? What are the consequences if I plead guilty? I currently have a clean record. Please advise.

Re: Consequences of a NYS speeding ticket

You will likely not get the points, but the conviction will transfer. There are some new rules, though, which are trying to connect all states together, so this may no longer be good advice.

In addition, I would attempt to contact, in writing, the prosecutor's office in the court in which your ticket would be heard. Believe it or not, they assign an attorney to these cases in New York State, or at least they did when I was there. You should ask them if there is any way to work out the ticket in advance- do traffic school, etc. so that you don't have to plead guilty.

Alternatively, it may be worth spending a few hundred bucks for a lawyer such as the "ticket doctor."
