Legal Question in Business Law in Massachusetts

If I sold my car to a person and have a bill of sale am I liable if that person gets in an accident if they don't register it after the sale. How does the state know the car has been sold and has changed hands to another?

You may have a defense in that you were not the true owner of the vehicle at the time of the accident. Please feel free to contact my office if you would like representation in this matter.

I agree with Chris. Keep the bill of sale somewhere safe. You can also send notice to the new owner regarding their liability by certified mail with return receipt.
