Legal Question in Consumer Law in Massachusetts

breach of contract

Do I have any recourse when a school does not hold up there end of a contract, i.e., does not supply an adequate externship which is required to get the certificate, and does not supply adequate job placement assistance? Thanks for your advise.

Re: breach of contract

It depends on the school and the contract or other terms of its offer and your acceptance. Unaccredited schools or internet schools are very difficult to hold accountable. If the school is an established one that has been around awhile, you probably can get them to honor their contract.

First, check the Attorney General's consumer protection web site ("Mass.gov" in Google) to see if the school is one they have acted on. You may also check the local/regional Better Business Bureau and the Boston Globe or other news source to see if there have been any other complaints.

You can also try the TV stations or newspapers consumer protection services.

I or any other consumer protection lawyer can try a consumer protection action (you have to send a letter 30 days before suing), but many of these schools just fold.
