Legal Question in Consumer Law in Massachusetts

Credit card purchase

If you are paying by credit card at a restaurant and make a mathematical error when adding the subtotal and the gratuity, should the restaurant charge the card for the total amount or should they correct the mathematical error. Example: Subtotal $67.00+ gratuity $30.00=$117.00

Re: Credit card purchase

That's a very good question! If this happened to you, the restaurant may have not noticed the error in your addition. However, I would think if you called them and they looked at your credit card slip they would most likely put a credit of the $10.00 back on your account.

Re: Credit card purchase error

I agree.

You can call the restaurant, and should do that first. If you fail to get the credit, then dispute this with your credit card company.
