Legal Question in Criminal Law in Massachusetts

leaving the scene of accident wproperty damage and driving without a license

HI my child is charged with the above 2 offenses. She says she wasn't driving. 2 witnesses say she was. I told her it didn';t matter who was - she is charged. Should we get a lawyer or use a court appt lawyer. She is 16 - never had a license. Never in trouble before. what might the consequences be whichever way we handle this. Nolo? Fines? Happened in MA, we live in NH.

Leaving the accident scene is a serious charge while the operating without a license is not as serious. Both offenses could influence the Registry as to when to give your daughter her license. I would need to know more about the accident to give more advice as to what I think could happen in terms of disposition. There is also the operation issue which is a factor. It is up to you whether you want to go with a court appointed attorney or pay for your own attorney. I would just recommend using an attorney who specializes in criminal law and practices regularly in the court where your daughter's case will be handled. Please feel free to contact me further.
