Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

I live in a MA and a petition for divorce has been filed in MN. My funds are limited. Is it best to hire an attorney in MN or MA? (I'm hoping to get some assistance in MA but have not had much luck yet. I'm a senior who has been cut off from spousal financial support.)

Hello,

If a petition has already been filed in another state, you will have to address whether or not there is valid jurisdiction in that state. In that situation you would need to contact an attorney in that state. Whether or not you can dismiss that petition and have proper jurisdiction to file for divorce in Massachusetts depends on what the facts of your case involve.

Thank you,
