Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Massachusetts

Copying Images

Is it legal to scan images from a book for a research paper if they are properly cited in the paper? The research paper is for school, will not be published, and will not result in any financial gains. Does the fair use law apply? If not, do any other laws apply?

Thank you.

Re: Copying Images

Publication and financial gain are not really the issue; your purpose is scholarly commentary, and that is within the "fair use" doctrine.
