Legal Question in Employment Law in Massachusetts

Company not paying, but won't layoff

My company has stopped paying the employees their bi-weekly checks but they have not done a layoff. How long are we expected to keep coming to work for free before they are obligated to let people go?

You are not expected to work for free. If your company won't pay you, please contact me, as new laws have recently been passed that state that your employer may be subject to 3 times the amount that they owe you.

You should contact an attorney who handles employment law matters as soon as possible.

There are very strict laws that protect workers from employers who attempt to deprive employees of their just wages.

In fact, an employer must may three times the amount of wages withheld, plus costs and attorneys fees, in the event that the employee is forced to file suit.

There are procedural requirements involved, including the requirement that you file a complaint with the Attorney General's office.

Please feel free to contact my office if you would like to schedule a no-obligation consultation at my office.
