Massachusetts is an "employment at will" state which means an employer can terminate an employee's employment for any reason, or no reason, at any time. Just like an employee can quit at any time and does not need to give the employer a reason why he or she is leaving. Courts are loathe to become "super-personnel departments" in overseeing whether firing were justified. If you had an employment contract providing you would only be fired on grounds sufficient to you, or on objective good cause, then you might have some rights. If you were in a union, you might have some rights. But if an employer just decided to fire you that gives you rights of redress given the current state of the law. Obviously, if you provide more detailed facts the answer could be different, and if you are really concerned you should buy a hour or two from a competent attorney and see if you fall into this general rule or whether you might fit into some exception.
