auction

when a 2 family house is auctioned of and there is still tenants living in the building how long do the tenants have until they have to move

As long as it takes to commence and successfully complete an eviction action, unless some sort of settlement or agreement is reached beforehand. Note that only a Court can evict a tenant, not a landlord and not the bank.

A sale or auction does not automatically evict residential tenants. They can only be evicted by a court eviction action which can take several months or more in certain circumstances.

Consider retaining an attorney if you are a tenant or purchasing landlord. Good Luck!
