Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Massachusetts

Illegal apartment

I was told to vacate in 30 days from what I just found out is an illegal apartment.

If I am not able to be out by the date given (by landlords lawyer) will I wind up getting locked out of my apartment (from the city ordinance office) because it was city ordinance who made my landlord give me 30 days to vacate.

Re: Illegal apartment

The landlord still needs to observe the law and procedures in place regarding evictions. S/he must properly terminate the tenancy by serving you with a Notice to Quit. Following the termination of the tenancy, he must observe proper eviction procedure.

Especially at this time of year, you should meet with an attorney, who may be able to keep you in the apartment until you are able to find suitable housing.
