A landlord is not permitted to deduct from your security deposit any amounts for repairing "ordinary wear and tear". Carpet cleaning and other routine cleaning are generally expenses that fall into the wear and tear category and thus any deduction of those amounts is likely unlawful. A landlord is liable for three times damages and attorney's fees for such conduct. Feel free to contact my office or go to my website, www.lawfang.com, for further information.
