Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Michigan

judgement for garnishment of wages

Once a writ is filed, is the total due to stay the same? My wages are being garnished, the beginning total was 5200.00, and according to my calculations I should only owe a remaining balance of around $800, I got another writ yesterday stating that I still owe $2020.00, once a judgement is made, can the amount owed increase?

Re: judgement for garnishment of wages

Yes, postjudgment interest accrues on the unpaid balance. The amount of interest should not exceed 18%. You need to check with the party garnishing your wages to determine how they calculated the balance they claim is still due and owing and make sure all payments have been credited. Based on the facts you have provided, the discrepancy appears to be excessive.

Good luck.
