Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan

unethical lawyer

In Jan. I hired an attorney to handle an expungement, he told me it would be about 3 months. Now it has been 6 months and everytime I call his office for info. they tell me they will call back but they never do. I spoke with the MSP and they say they have no info. for this case at the state level. I have a call in to the Att. Generals office to see if they have recieved anything on it yet but my guess is they haven't. My question is how do I go about getting a refund for the money I gave him. He quoted me a price of 500.00 which I paid in full at the time of consultation. Thanks

Re: unethical lawyer

If you have not had a set of your fingerprints taken (to be forwarded to the MSP), your lawyer has failed. Expungments take time - mostly because the MSP is slow to respond to the application. Call the court (where you were convicted) and give the criminal clerk your name and case number. The clerk will inform you if a hearing date has been set. If no date has been set, you may file a complaint with the Attorney Grievance Commission.
