Legal Question in DUI Law in Michigan

First Time offense OWI

I was recently arrested and charged with a OWI this all the night of my birthday which was the only reason iwas drinking that night, and I am currently awaiting a court date and I am very nervous and stressed out. I was arrested after i crashed into a curb and damaged my own car in the parking lot where i was gonna park my car. I'm very worried about going to jail and i feel i have ruined life I need to know what kind of penalties I will be facing.

Well, having already spent one night in the lockup, you may be concerned about spending another 92 days in the Washtenaw County Jail. Not to worry! Almost nobody goes to jail for their first offense. So, you havn't ruined your life - at least not with your first OWI.

If you'd like some help on staying out of jail, keeping your driver's license, and minimizing your costs, you can call my office.

It is not the end of the world and it won't ruin your life. I recommend hiring an attorney. An attorney will explain the process thoroughly and advocate for the best resolution on your behalf.

OWI is a misdemeanor offense punishable by up to 93 days in jail, up to a $500 fine, up to 360 hours of community service, a 30 day license suspension followed by 150 day restricted, six points on your driving record, and vehicle immobilization of up to 180 days. Keep in mind that these are only potential penalties.

The foremost issue in most peoples mind is jail. Unfortunately, jail varies greatly from court to court. In most courts, first offense OWI doesnt result in jail, but there are notable exceptions. One more reason to hire a lawyer.

Good luck.
