Legal Question in Environmental Law in Michigan

we live in a area where there has been a oil pipe line that broke the oil is in the river and went down stream for miles. the company that owns the pipe line is buying a couple of homes that are affected. the company also said that if your home is outside of 200 ft that your home is not affected and they wont do anything. we have heard that the real distance is 500 ft can you please advice to the real answer

Contact the MDEQ, Michigan Department of Environmental Quality. They will have a report regarding the broken oil pipe. If you believe that your home is affected by the oil spill, take the report to an environmental attorney for review and to apply the law to the facts of your case. Regardless of the distance from the broken pipe, you may be able to show that due to water flow, your home is uniquely situated and more affected by the oil spill than others.
