Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

My children and I have lived in Michigan for 4 years, they attend school there, I work there, and have a house I'm purchasing there. Every summer for 3 years I have sent my boys to California to spend the summer. They were always returned on time. This time they were never returned I had to physically drive to California to get them only to be served with divorce papers and him to say I'm not allowed to leave state with them until custody is established. There is a child support order through California that he has to pay me. Do my kids and I have to stay here or can I go home with them?
