Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

Confinement Expense

I had a son when I was 14 years old. I have been paying child support for 18 years since I was 15 years old. Both the girl and I were minors on aid. After 15 years of paying child support the friend of the court garnishes my check with an additional charge for the birth of the child in the sum of $81,000 dollars. Medicaid was believed to have paid this bill. Am I responsible to pay this bill? Who do I owe: the hospital or Medicaid? Is the court supposed to supply me with some proof of a bill?

Re: Confinement Expense

Medicaid is the public. You are responsible for paying the Medicaid bills. It is not like free insurance. You are paying Medicaid back. It sounds like a hell of a lot of money, however. Were there complications at birth, or is it mostly interest? Talk to a bankruptcy lawyer to see if you can get out of it. Bill Stern
