Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

Divorce in another country married in US

I was married in Michigan (US) 20 years ago and sponsored my husband for his Green Card. We have since then lived in India for many years and keep going back and forth with the permanent residency being in the US. I would like to know if I can file for a divorce in India since all our assets and life has been mostly in India. I have nothing in the US, no job nor any assests and no taxes filed for many years now. I have however, filed for taxes in India and have worked in our own company for about 12 years now and am a director in the company. I don't think if I file in India my husband will ensure I get nothing since he is very networked there and I am not - but if I file in the US can he refuse to sign?

Re: Divorce in another country married in US

Where you were married is not relevant to where you can get divorced. In order to file in Michigan, you need to have lived here for a minimum of 6 months. It sounds like you are living in India so you must file there. William S. Stern
