Ex-wifes rights

My ex husband died without a will although he left his life insurance money to me . we have one son between us and my ex did not leave a will. Does this mean our son gets all property and possessions or do I have any claim at all? My son had to wait so many days to claim everything, was I entitled to anything? My ex never remarried after our divorce. I did.
