Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

release or mortgage resposibility

I signed a quit claim deed on the house when we were divorced. The house still shows up on my credit report 4 years later. I understand that I am still financially responsible. My ex wife will not refinance to get my name off the mortgage. What can i do?

Re: release or mortgage resposibility

You are stuck with whatever is in your judgment. You cannot force her to refinance or sell if it is not in the judgment. All you can do, is make her such a good offer that she has to consider it. Bill Stern 248-353-9400

The language of the judgment is extremely important, as is the mortgage agreement. As property settlements in divorce are non-modifiable, you may not be able extricate yourself from the mortgage. If you have further questions, I give free initial consultations. Please contact me at www.lawgreg.com
