Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

I am looking to travel this summer to Turkey where the father of my child is from. We were never married, he is on the birth certificate, child was born in FL. In Nov 2013 he & I moved to MI with me but he walked out in the middle of the night , went back to FL and has yet been heard from until today. I mentioned I was going to Turkey to see his family and he says he will try to stop me if I do. The child has always resided with me full time, there is no court orders for anything or custody arrangements because he really doesn't want to be bothered, just doing it out of spite. What can I do? I just thought I could go since he's not in the child's life and he abandoned her?

You should file a paternity action in michigan and seek sole physical and legal custody. I routinely handle these matters, feel free to contact me to discuss your situation. It's best not to take a "wait and see" approach.
